How to Safely Jump-Start Your Vehicle
Jump-starting a vehicle is a process that revives a dead or discharged battery by using power from another vehicle’s battery. Follow these step-by-step instructions to jump-start your vehicle safely:

Prioritize Safety
- Position both vehicles close together without touching.
- Turn off both engines and remove any loose clothing or jewelry.
- Ensure there are no flammable substances nearby.
- Engage the parking brake and put both vehicles in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).

Locate the Batteries
- Open the hoods and identify the battery terminals on both vehicles.
- The positive (+) terminal is typically marked with a red cover or the letters “POS” or “P.”
- The negative (-) terminal is usually marked with a black cover or the letters “NEG” or “N.”

Connect the Jumper Cables
Use a set of jumper cables with insulated clamps. Follow these steps:
- Red (positive) cable: Connect one end to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
- Red (positive) cable: Connect the other end to the positive terminal of the donor battery.
- Black (negative) cable: Connect one end to the negative terminal of the donor battery.
- Black (negative) cable: Connect the other end to an unpainted metal surface on the dead vehicle’s engine block, away from the battery and moving parts.

Start the Donor Vehicle
Start the engine of the donor vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. This allows the donor battery to transfer power.

Start the Dead Vehicle
- Try starting the engine of the dead vehicle.
- If it starts, keep it running for a few minutes to let the battery recharge.
- If it doesn’t start, wait a few more minutes and try again. If it still doesn’t start, the battery may need to be replaced or professionally serviced.

Disconnect the Jumper Cables
Carefully disconnect the cables in reverse order:
- Black (negative) cable: Remove from the engine block of the dead vehicle.
- Black (negative) cable: Remove from the donor vehicle’s negative terminal.
- Red (positive) cable: Remove from the donor vehicle’s positive terminal.
- Red (positive) cable: Remove from the previously dead vehicle’s positive terminal.

Let the Engine Run
- Keep the engine running on the revived vehicle for a while to let the battery charge.
- Consider driving for 15-20 minutes to help maintain a proper charge.
